If Sussex can knock off the 94 more runs they need to beat Warwickshire at Hove on Monday it will go down as one of their best wins in recent years.

They have only chased more than 328 to win a match at headquarters on four occasions in the past, most recently in 2022 against Derbyshire.

There is still work to do, but after Daniel Hughes made a superb 89, Jack Leaning – on his first appearance at Hove for his new county – compiled a composed and crucially unbeaten 72. He will resume having added 50 for the sixth wicket with Tom Price with Sussex 234 for 5.

James Kirtley has seen a few tight finishes at Hove in his many years as player and now bowling coach and thinks this could be another one.
