The sleepless nights are to come for Ollie Robinson, who will become a father for the first time in August.

For now, though, the Sussex captain is resting easy and why not. He had led his team to victories in their first two Rothesay County Championship matches and while beating promoted Leicestershire at Grace Road was probably to be expected, the five-wicket victory against Warwickshire which Sussex sealed 15 minutes before lunch at Hove on Monday was a statement win.

“In the first seven days of being captain I think I’ve only had one day when I’ve gone away thinking I should have done something differently which is not bad!" said Robinson. "To be fair, the boys are making it very easy for me.”

He’s not wrong there. Over the two games five different batsmen have made scores of fifty or more, with Jack Leaning (120 not out) and Tom Price (70 not out) steering Sussex to victory against the Bears with an unbroken sixth-wicket stand of 144. They also bowled out a strong Warwickshire side twice with all the front-line bowlers contributing.
