Ollie Robinson is expecting some of his back-up seamers to play their part when Sussex start the most gruelling segment of their County Championship campaign next week.
The new skipper and his players were given the week off after Monday’s five-wicket win over Warwickshire backed up their victory against Leicestershire in the opening round. The instructions from Robinson and director of cricket Paul Farbrace were to put their feet up.
For when they head to Headingley for next Friday’s game against Yorkshire it will be the first of four Championship games in as many weeks. The toughest assignment of the season – a trip to The Oval – follows before Sussex play the return fixture against the Foxes. They then head to Taunton to face a Somerset side seldom mastered on their own turf.
It would be perfect if they will be able to keep the team that has won the first two games for the next four, but that seems unlikely for reasons of fitness and form.
