Robinson should relish his new role

The 32-year-old has a new challenge this season, and Paul Farbrace believes he will relish the responsibility of being Sussex's first bowler-captain since 1955.

When Ollie Robinson leads the team out at Grace Road on Good Friday it will be 70 years since a specialist bowler last led Sussex.

That was off-spinner Robin Marlar, who captained the county from 1955-59. A couple of his successors, Tony Greig and John Barclay, bowled a lot for Sussex but Greig was a proper all-rounder. ‘Trout’ was a decent off-spinner but would be flattered if you called him a front-line bowler.

So there will be extra focus on how the 32-year-old handles the responsibilities of opening the bowling and making the decisions.

Few people know him better, of course, than director of cricket Paul Farbrace, who is Robinson’s stepfather.
