When Sussex’s accounts for 2024/25 landed on members’ doormats it would have attracted a lot more interest than usual, given the revelations of recent weeks.

But who of us can honestly say they could make sense of the numbers and notes contained in its 34 pages?

Most of the headline figures were already well-known, of course. An operating loss for the company over the past year of £1.33m which has led to resignations, among them chairman Jon Filby, the imposition of special measures by the ECB including points deductions, and redundancies at the club.

But if you know what you’re looking for in a balance sheet, there are anomalies in Sussex’s which offer a clue as to the extent of the mess the club found itself.
