For the first block of County Championship games Sussex will have to find someone to share the main wicket-taking burden with Ollie Robinson.

And while it was brilliant to see the new captain set a great example with the 23rd five-wicket haul of his Sussex career as his side took charge on day two against Leicestershire on Saturday, it was arguably more encouraging to see Henry Crocombe step up to take the other five.

For only the third time in the last decade Sussex have started the season without an overseas fast bowler – and one of those was 2020 when travel restrictions meant there were no overseas players at all.

With injuries sidelining new signing Dom Goodman and Sean Hunt, Sussex’s fast-bowling options for this game were pretty thin and it was Fynn Hudson-Prentice who shared the new ball with Robinson when Leicestershire began their reply to Sussex’s 361.
