Jaydev Unadkat took his 500th first-class wicket on Tuesday and revealed afterwards that he might be back to take a few more for Sussex.
The Indian left-armer picked up three wickets as a disciplined performance by Sussex’s seam attack restricted title-chasing Nottinghamshire to 232 for 9 on day one at Hove.
Unadkat’s contribution to the cause was three wickets, the third of them when Oli Stone dragged on. It perhaps wasn’t the type of delivery he might have hoped to clock up his 500th with but they all count, and as he celebrated he offered a prayer to the heavens.
“At tea I had a message from my wife saying, "Let's break it. Let's put some records down," he said. "I knew that I was one away, and that's why I looked at the heavens. I thanked God for everything that I've been able to do in my career.
