Modern cricketers are not famous for their keen interest in the game’s history but that charge can hardly be levelled against Tom Price, Sussex’s most exciting signing for the 2026 season.

Sussex pulled off something of a coup with the signing of Price, 26, one of the most promising all-rounders in the county game, from Gloucestershire. It is understood that a number of counties – including Lancashire – had been watching his progress at Bristol with considerable interest.

Price, meanwhile, has been watching old DVDs of Jacques Kallis, Andrew 'Freddie' Flintoff and Ian Botham in the hope of improving his versatile skills. “I look up to so many amazing cricketers that it’s hard to narrow it down to one or two,” he says.

“I grew up watching the 2005 Ashes series on DVD. I loved watching that incredible series. I’ve got the 2009 box set too. But I missed the one in 06/07. I didn’t need to watch that one! I watched 1981 on DVD as well.
