Sussex's dismal Vitality Blast campaign goes from bad to worse

At the start of the Vitality Blast Sussex might have regarded Wednesday night’s visit to Edgbaston as useful time spent in reconnaissance ahead of a return trip to Birmingham for Finals Day on 18 July.
The reality could not be more different. A sixth defeat out of eight in the Sharks’ cross-pool tie with the Bears, and by a whopping 76 runs, has left them on a miserable six points which is just the 14 shy of the top two in the south section.
Even if they were to win all four remaining matches, which includes fixtures against the top two Hampshire and Surrey, they would still be struggling to go through as one of the two best third-placed teams from the three groups. Not that there is the remotest chance of that happening.
