Hughes has a night to remember as Sussex enjoy rare Blast victory

It may have come too late to save Sussex’s T20 campaign, but Daniel Hughes had a day (and early evening) to remember in the pastoral surroundings of Merchant Taylor’s School as the Sharks won only their third game in this year’s Blast.
The 36-year-old from New South Wales isn’t alone in having an indifferent T20 with the bat. He is still comfortably Sussex’s leading scorer with 383 but despite going past 40 on four occasions this season he hadn’t made the really big contribution needed to post the big totals that give their bowlers a chance. And his form appeared to be tailed off with two against Essex last Friday and nine on Wednesday at the Oval.
