It’s 13 years since Sussex visited the Kia Oval in the Rothesay County Championship, an eternity for such near neighbours.
Back in April 2013 honours were shared in the Division One clash, Gary Wilson’s 124 the highlight after Surrey had chosen to bat and made 351, the main destroyer Chris Jordan (5-92) on his return to The Oval after being released the previous season.
Luke Wells made a mighty 208 in 526 minutes to dominate the reply of 526, skipper Ed Joyce (98) helping him to add 200 for the third wicket, Gareth Batty’s marathon 47 overs earning him 3-174, and the draw was achieved with 308 for 5 declared through the efforts of captain Graeme Smith (67), Wilson (60) and Vikram Solanki’s 83.
