At a time when the very future of county cricket in general is being pondered – and when the financial worries at Sussex are driving some supporters to neurotic despair - it is time to take a deep breath and read the following, heartwarming words.
“If any single county lies at the heart of English cricket it is Sussex.”
They are penned by Scyld Berry in his book, Disappearing World, a lyrical celebration of the county game and its salient place in English life for more than a century.
