Farbrace's sudden departure is the latest blow in a turbulent 12 months - but Walker has the opportunity to start a successful era of his own at Sussex.

Sussex seem to have been in a state of permanent flux ever since the extent of their financial crisis emerged nearly a year ago.

There was the initial shock at the level of the fiscal mismanagement.

Heads rolled – starting with former chairman Jon Filby followed by several board members – and by mid-June the players whose contracts expired last week were having their heads turned by other counties. Last week the number who are leaving finally stopped at 11.

Add in the club’s head of growth (whatever that meant), head of media, former chief executive Pete Fitzboyden and batting coach Grant Flower and that’s quite the fall-out.
