Welcome to Hove and Away.

Whether you’re here just for a month to see what we have to offer, or you’re committed for the next year we appreciate your support.

It's been a month since our launch and in that time we've posted more than 30 stories, features and opinion pieces. And there's so much more to come - the new season hasn't even started yet!

Thanks for your feedback

We're grateful to everyone who has subscribed and just as importantly got in touch with their feedback, mostly positive we are pleased to say.

A lot of you have said how easy it is to access our content.

No pop-ups, no click-throughs, no annoying videos you can’t close – just independent and intelligent commentary on Sussex cricket. And no advertising - and no plans for that to change either.

You have also said how much you are enjoying Paul Weaver’s writing. Paul's association with Sussex goes further back than me, to the 1960s and the days of Dexter, Parks and Snow. He covered England home and away for 40 years for a most of the major newspapers but at heart he's a Sussex man. We're lucky to have him.

I have been reporting on Sussex cricket since the late 1980s. Some of you may remember me from my 17-year stint covering Sussex for The Argus. Luckily for me it coincided with the most successful period in the county’s history. Will they return? Well, I've got a hunch 2026 might be a good year. Beyond that, as we've been reporting, there is so much uncertainty.

Anyway, the financial issues have given us plenty to write about but we'll never forget that Sussex has such a rich history and I know from your feedback how much you enjoy our nostalgia features. There's plenty more of that to come.

Match coverage

When the season starts of course we'll be monitoring the matches. We will interview the players and coaching staff, but H&A is not the place for ‘we put the ball in the right areas’ and ‘we left a few runs out there' and ball-by-ball dissection.

We like to think we've shown we can do better than that.

The CounterPress family

If you scroll down to the bottom of our page you'll see that Hove and Away is one of several websites covering the counties now live and under the umbrella of CounterPress.

Launched by Sam Morshead, the former digital editor of The Cricketer, in 2024, CounterPress is filling the gap for quality sports journalism left by the demise of the regional and weekly press over the last decade or more.

An app is on the way together with a podcast function so the site will improve and develop.

Anyway, that’s enough about us. Dive into the content and please let us know what you think – good or bad – and any ideas you think it’s worth us exploring. Email me at bruce@hoveandaway.news

Thanks again for your support of Hove & Away and please recommend us to other Sussex followers as we build our community.
