Tom Haines captains Sussex against Glamorgan on Friday with rueful memories of when he last did the job four years ago.
If you think Sussex have problems now – and they do, with points deductions because of financial losses and some players set to leave at the end of the summer – just cast your mind back to the sorry season of 2022.
Sussex used 36 cricketers that year, including seven overseas players and another seven on loan. Haines, who had only won his county cap the year before, was just 23 but there were 13 players younger than him.
