Some teams get out of jail but Sussex skipped out of Alcatraz at Taunton on Monday.
They appeared to be hurtling towards an innings defeat faster than the laws of gravity normally permit when the rain – which had been promised all day but which appeared to have forsaken them – finally arrived.
Sussex, having followed on 273 runs behind, were 113 for 7 in their second innings – still 160 behind with more than 30 overs remaining – when the rain which had been skirting around the County Ground for hours came to their rescue.
