Sussex bowling coach James Kirtley admits it’s been a challenging three weeks for his young Sharks in the Metro Bank One Day Cup.
Sussex have looked to develop a number of their young players in the ODC, including fast bowlers Freddie Price (18), Toby Munt (19), Nantes Oosthuizen (20) and his own son, Ollie Kirtley (18).
Slow left-armer Troy Henry (22) and batsmen George Thomas (22) and Joe Johnson (20) – who also looks a gun fielder in a number of positions – have also been given a go as the club faces up to the extreme difficulty of being without a number of their senior players next year because of financial restrictions imposed by the England and Wales Cricket Board.
