Tom Alsop is among the senior pros in action at Hove on Wednesday when Sussex seconds face Nottinghamshire in a three-day friendly.

It will be the first competitive action of the season for the likes of Alsop and several others, and director of cricket Paul Farbrace believes it’s an opportunity for them to put themselves in the frame for the block of four Championship games starting against Yorkshire on Friday week.

Sussex have been unchanged in their first two red-ball games and won both and so, injuries permitting, Ollie Robinson is likely to lead out the same team again at Headingley.

But an injury to one of the top order could present an opportunity to the likes of Alsop, Dan Ibrahim, Oli Carter and Charlie Tear, who will all face Nottinghamshire.
