Nantes Oosthuizen is the name that had me scratching my noggin when Sussex announced the squad for Friday’s Hove opener in the Rothesay County Championship against Warwickshire.

Oosthuizen, 20, who sounds as if he should be playing Masters golf at Augusta this week rather than cricket at Hove, has been brought into a 15-man squad to bolster the bowling following injuries to Dom Goodman and Sean Hunt.

Director of Cricket Paul Farbrace told me: “He’s a tall, medium-fast bower from Seaford College on the second year of his rookie contract. He’s raw but has good potential.”

I also managed to grab a quick word with fast bowling coach James Kirtley after training on Thursday. He said: “Nantes is raw, but he can bowl balls that can get anyone out. He’s getting better all the time.
