After John Simpson’s unexpected onslaught at Chelmsford on Friday it was the turn of Tom Clark to produce the best T20 innings of his career at a sweltering Canterbury on Monday.
At Chelmsford on Friday, Simpson hit eight sixes in a 23-ball 63 as Sussex chased down a target of 192 with four overs to spare. Three days later Clark set the tone with 79 off just 28 balls but it wasn’t enough to propel Sussex to victory.
Instead, after racing to 102 in the eighth over when Clark was out, Sussex finished on 197 for six and Kent, with Zac Crawley anchoring the chase with 75 off 41 balls, got home with ten balls to spare and six wickets in hand.
