No matter who you speak to at Hove the message is the same: make the most of this summer because cuts to the playing side at the end of it are inevitable.
Director of Cricket Paul Farbrace may well end up being one of the casualties so his decision to shake things up and give John Simpson a more rounded role as club captain makes sense.
The five-year plan Farbrace talked about when he came to Sussex in 2023 is now four years and the county might have to strategize the playing side on a year-by-year basis in future while they get their finances in order.
Put it this way. It could be a while before anyone gets a three-year contract again.
