When you’ve just become a first-time father you tend to put things into perspective.
Nonetheless new Dad Jack Leaning - whose wife Ellie gave birth to Lottie a few weeks ago - was delighted to make what could be a pivotal contribution to Sussex’s final Championship game of the season.
Leaning hit 78 on day one at the Utilita Bowl as Sussex recovered from 124 for 7 to post 244 before reducing relegated Hampshire to 55 for 4 at stumps.
By his own admission Leaning has not had the season he’d hoped for after joining Sussex from Kent.
