Most people who attended Sussex’s last match, at home to Leicestershire, may have been so distracted by the bar and catering facilities - let alone the actual cricket - that they missed the emotional homecoming of one of the club’s most important figures of recent years.

Bob Warren hadn’t come to Hove for two years but the man who was the Sussex chair from 2017 to 2021 visited the county ground on Friday, the first day of the Leicestershire game, and it was a joyous occasion for all concerned.
