Researching this piece, I dug out this quote from Sussex’s bowling coach James Kirtley as he reflected on a win at Headingley 24 years ago.
“Before now we’ve tended to worry about the outcome rather than the processes involved in winning matches which are building partnerships and bowling well as a unit.
“We did that in this game and also held our catches and, when we do that, I think we are a match for any side in this division.”
