Hughes adds to the century makers, but Sussex could be in an even better position against Leicestershire

It is an oddity of the Sussex season that they have come up with a century maker – and a different one - in every Championship match they have played this season.
In the opening game of the season it was Tom Clark, who scored 101 against Leicestershire. Then Jack Leaning scored an unbeaten 120 against Warwickshire before John Simpson hit 136 against Yorkshire.
In the last match, against Surrey at The Oval, there were two, Ollie Robinson’s 100 not out and Jack Carson’s 105.
This time it was the turn of Dan Hughes, whose first century of the season was the 12th of his first-class career. It’s been a disappointing season for the Sussex batsmen so it’s been very kind and thoughtful of them to have presented this delightful consolation to their supporters. But what glories await when they all hit form at the same time.
