How central contract windfall can help Sussex strengthen their squad

New head coach Matt Walker will have some more leeway thanks to the deals for Ollie Robinson, James Coles, Jofra Archer and the departing Henry Crocombe.

Three players have been centrally contracted by the ECB and the money Sussex will save as a result should help to fund replacements to cover the potential absence of two of them.

As expected after his spectacular performances in the summer Test series against New Zealand and Pakistan, when he took 28 wickets at 9.32 across four Tests, Ollie Robinson has earned a 12-month contract.

Robinson had previously earned deals in 2022 and 2023 and while there was some surprise that he didn’t get a two-year deal following his exploits earlier this year England’s managing director Rob Key believes it will keep him motivated to further improve.
