Henry Crocombe will leave Sussex at the end of the season but his parting gift might well have been the bowling spell that keeps the county in the first division.
A week after taking the first hat-trick of his career, the 24-year-old became only the seventh bowler in the history of first-class cricket to do it in back to back matches as he led an astonishing fightback on day two against Essex at Chelmsford.
In his ninth over Crocombe trapped Simon Harmer and Zaman Akhter lbw with inswinging deliveries at good pace with the first two balls of his over before Shane Snater played over the third and lost his leg stump.
