Hove and Away tried to set up an interview with incoming head coach Matt Walker but were told by Sussex that, under the terms of his contract at current club Warwickshire, he won’t talk until he starts at the club on 1 November.
That’s a shame – but Sussex batsman Jack Leaning is under no such obligation and was happy to discuss someone he worked closely with during his time with Kent and whom he regards very highly.
Leaning believes Sussex have landed the perfect man to take the club forward in partnership with director of cricket Paul Farbrace, who reverts to a part-time role at Hove on the same day Walker, 52, will be getting his feet under the table.
