It’s more talked about than Berlin’s Brandenburg Gate or Mumbai’s Gateway of India. The north-east entrance to the Hove ground is discussed more in Sussex than Ollie Robinson’s batting or Tom Price’s dodgy ankle.
Before the opening home championship match, against Warwickshire, a decision was made to close the north-east gate on the last two days to save around £8k through the season in stewarding costs.
It seemed a sensible move, with the club as skint as Wilkins Micawber. But it resulted in a storm of protest from people who had become used to their bus delivering them to Cromwell Road and who suddenly had to hoof it all the way down to Eaton Road to get in.
