Paul Farbrace is leaving Sussex to join Lancashire in the biggest blow yet to a county who have become used to seismic shocks in the last 12 months.

The 59-year-old is taking up the full-time role of director of cricket at Old Trafford.

Farbrace stepped down as head coach two weeks ago after guiding Sussex to third place in the County Championship. He was due to begin a new role as part-time director of cricket on November 1.

Matt Walker, who was at Hove on Monday getting to know his new surroundings, takes over as head coach at the end of this month.
