Sussex are involved in high-level negotiations with their director of cricket Paul Farbrace with a view to retaining his services.

Farbrace has transformed the fortunes of the club since joining at the end of 2022. But two days before the start of the season he announced that he would be leaving at the end of the summer.

His decision came in the wake of club losses of £1.33m in the last financial year and the announcement of tight restrictions imposed by the England and Wales Cricket Board – including a 12 points penalty in the County Championship - that could lead to the departure of several important players at the end of the current campaign.
