New head coach Matt Walker faces an interesting dilemma next season - who takes the gloves for Sussex in the County Championship?
With John Simpson set to play his final game at Hove behind the stumps against title challengers Nottinghamshire next week there is a vacancy in 2027.
Assumed wisdom was that Charlie Tear, who scored 128 runs as the Championship match with Surrey fizzled out into a draw on Friday, would take Simpson’s place.
But Farbrace thinks that Tear wants to establish himself as a top order batsman, and not only his runs but the way he made them against a decent Surrey attack this week suggests there could be a long-term role for him in the top four.
