Charlie Tear’s second List A hundred for Sussex was a sizeable crumb of comfort as they headed back to Hove on Friday night after a second Metro Bank One-Day Cup defeat in three days.

The 21-year-old, who scored 159 against Northants in last year’s competition, made 118 off 112 balls against Durham at the Riverside, but the Sharks came up well short in their pursuit of the home side’s mammoth 352 for 5.

Tear and George Thomas got the chase off to a strong start with 116 in 13.1 overs, of which Thomas contributed 48.
