Tom Alsop faces a spell on the sidelines after suffering a calf injury.

The 31-year-old batsman was left out of Sussex’s side for their opening two County Championship games, which were both won.

He was due to play in a second-team friendly against Nottinghamshire at Hove last week but pulled out and director of cricket Paul Farbrace confirmed on Monday that Alsop had torn his calf.

Alsop has had little luck with injuries in the past few months. His participation in the Big Bash during the winter for Brisbane Heat was cut short to two games because he needed injections in his knee.
