Sussex Women kick off their One Day Cup campaign on Sunday with three key players absent for the game against Leicestershire at Grace Road.
It’s a measure of the talent factory that has been established in the county for many years that wicketkeeper-batter Mollie Adams, who scored her maiden century last season a week after her 18th birthday, leg-spinner Eve O’Neill and 17-year-old Shristi Patil, who came through Berkshire’s pathway, are all with England U19s in Australia and will also miss Sussex’s opening home game against Worcestershire at Hove next Sunday (April 19).
This is Sussex’s second season in tier two of the women’s competition and head coach Alexia Walker and her players will be hoping to improve on last season’s performances when they came seventh in the ten-team 50 overs competition and third out of five in the T20 tournament.
There was widespread disappointment at Hove when the women’s game was reorganised in 2024 and Sussex didn’t make the cut for the tier one professional division.
