Winter is like kryptonite for cricket supporters, unless you have the resources to follow the sun, and next winter might be particularly difficult for Sussex fans. So we need to cheer each other up.

We might do it in October. What do you think? I once met the TV presenter Denis Norden in London and he told me: “October is a cruel time for the devoted cricket follower because it’s the month when he discovers that his wife left him in May.”
