And then there were four. As we sheltered from another downpour at Hove on Sunday evening, following the draw against Somerset, Director of Cricket Paul Farbrace predicted more tough cricket ahead in the games against Essex, Surrey, Nottinghamshire and Hampshire.
“I’m not expecting too many open games,” he told me. “I’m expecting some cagey cricket. But come the last two games you might find one or two teams take a bit of a chance and gamble to give themselves a chance to win.
“What we don’t want is going to Southampton with a chance of relegation. because in Division One you can very quickly go from one end to the other. And everyone will be looking over their shoulders.”
