Walking tall. Dom aims to be a Goodman for Sussex

The first thing you notice about the new Sussex fast bowler, Dom Goodman, is his height. He claims to be 6ft 5in but he seems even taller, like an amiable alpine ash.

When he stands close the light drains from the sky. We agree to sit down for a chat, so he doesn't have to stoop.

I've never seen him bowl, and it's unlikely you have. He comes to our assistance. "I run in and hit the pitch as hard as I can, using my height to get bounce," he says. "I look to seam the ball more than swing it. Accuracy is probably my main strength. I bowl at around 80mph.

"If there is a cricketer I would love to emulate it's Glenn McGrath. Or, in today's cricket, Ollie Robinson."
