Jack Leaning has arrived at Sussex with a point to prove

The former Kent and Yorkshire batter is linking up with Paul Farbrace for the third time in his career

Jack Leaning is the man Sussex hope will add experience and depth to their batting, something that was sometimes missing on their return to the County Championship’s top flight last season.

Leaning, 32, an all-format right-hander, has signed a three-year contract and the good news for Sussex is that he goes into the new season feeling he has something to prove.

“I didn’t do myself justice in the red-ball game last year," he said. "But I was still disappointed when Kent told me that I didn’t figure in their long-term plans. I had done pretty well for the club apart from last summer, including leading the side on occasions.

“But Farby [Sussex Director of Cricket Paul Farbrace] was the first person I spoke with. Ironically, the first words I had with Farby a dozen or so years ago were often cross ones!
